Your privacy, your mana - law change from 1st May 2026
A new health privacy notification rule is now in force. When a health agency receives health information about you from someone other than you or your authorised representative, the agency must take reasonable steps to make you or your representative aware, unless an exception applies.
· What this could include: information from another health provider, hospital, lab, specialist, pharmacist, ACC, caregiver or whānau member involved in your care.
· When it applies: health information collected indirectly from 1 May 2026 onward; it is not retrospective.
· What you can do: keep your phone, email and next-of-kin details updated, tell us your communication preferences, and ask us if you want to view or correct information in your health record.
Plain-English promise We will keep treating your kōrero and health information with respect. If we need to explain where information came from or how it is used, we will do that as clearly as possible. |
Winter hauora check
Flu, COVID-19, whooping cough and measles protection
Winter brings more flu, COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses. The yearly flu vaccine is recommended for everyone aged over 6 months and is free for eligible groups such as people aged 65+, pregnant people, Māori and Pacific people aged 55+, and people with some long-term conditions.
· Ask a clinician whether you are due for flu, COVID-19, MMR, whooping cough or other immunisations.
· Hapū māmā, tamariki, kaumātua and people with long-term conditions are especially encouraged to check their immunisations.
· If you have fever, cough, runny nose, sore watery pink eyes or a rash, stay home and call before coming in so we can protect others.

Pharmacy and medicines update
From 2 June 2026, the range of funded medicines that community pharmacies can provide directly has expanded. Depending on eligibility and the pharmacy, this may include treatment or support for scabies, oral rehydration for children, pain and fever management for children, head lice, conjunctivitis in children, uncomplicated urinary tract infections and the emergency contraceptive pill. Some people may still need to pay a consultation fee.
· Ask first: pharmacy participation, eligibility and stock can vary. Call your pharmacy before travelling.
· Still unsure? our team can help you decide whether to see a pharmacist, nurse or doctor.
Medicine supply notes
PHARMAC continues to publish medicine supply notices. For example, methylphenidate supply constraints are expected to continue through 2026, so patients may not always receive their usual brand. Please request repeats early and talk with your pharmacist or prescriber if there are problems filling a script.
Looking ahead, PHARMAC is consulting on several medicine and vaccine proposals, including possible changes to diabetes medicine access criteria and possible vaccine changes from 2027. These are proposals or consultations, not reasons to stop or change medicines without advice.
ACC and injury care
If your appointment is about an accident or injury, please tell reception and your clinician. ACC may help with treatment and recovery support for injuries covered in New Zealand. For ACC claim questions, phone 0800 101 996.
· Bring any ACC claim number, discharge notes, X-ray results or employer paperwork if you have them.
· For sprains and strains, safe movement, good support and a gradual return to daily life or work can help recovery - ask the team what is right for you.
