About Us - Te Kahu Hauora
Te Kahu Hauora is an iwi-led general practice in the heart of Dannevirke, founded by Ngāti Kahungunu ki Tāmaki-nui-a-Rua to make healthcare more accessible, affordable, and connected to community.
Opened in 2024 under the THINK Hauora PHO, Te Kahu Hauora provides Very Low Cost Access (VLCA) primary care that blends modern medicine with kaupapa Māori values. Our clinic is built on aroha, laughter, and manaakitanga — creating a space where patients feel genuinely “part of the family.”
Every day begins with karakia and whanaungatanga, grounding our team in the wellbeing of the people we serve. We believe health is more than prescriptions and appointments — it’s about connection, belonging, and restoring trust in care.
With more than 1,800 enrolled patients, the majority Māori and Pacific, Te Kahu Hauora continues to grow through community voice, compassion, and collaboration.
Our mission is simple: to care for our people, in our place, guided by our values.
Meet The Team
At Te Kahu Hauora, our strength lies in our people. Our clinical and support team bring warmth, expertise, and aroha to every interaction — creating a space where patients feel valued, heard, and cared for.
We’re proud to have a mix of experienced local practitioners, nurse prescribers, and dedicated whānau-centered professionals who share one purpose:
To deliver compassionate, kaupapa Māori healthcare that truly puts our community first.

Our Team In Action
The Te Kahu Hauora team includes a specialist GP, nurse practitioner, registered nurse prescribers, practice nurses, and our mobile community nursing team — all supported by dedicated administration and operations staff.
Together, they provide not only general practice care but also health education, chronic condition management, immunisations, and outreach across the Tararua region.
Every morning begins with karakia and kōrero, grounding our mahi in the wellbeing of our people. Working alongside the wider Ngāti Kahungunu team allows for warm handovers and seamless connection between services — ensuring whānau receive care that extends beyond the clinic and into the heart of the community.
